More About the Pennsylvania Cosmetology Exam
In the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, the State Board of Cosmetology is the regulatory agency charged with the responsibility of promoting the ethical and professional standards of the profession. For example, the State Board of Cosmetology issues licenses to aspiring cosmetologists like you.
If you are a cosmetology student in Pennsylvania who is interested in practicing professionally in the state, you must have completed 1,250 course hours at a state approved school in no less than 8 months or 2000 hours in an approved apprentice program, have completed 10th grade or its equivalent, and have passed the written and practical exams.
The Pennsylvania State Board of Cosmetology has partnered with Pearson Vue to administer its exams. Test takers will be tested on several major topics and have two hours to complete the exam. These topics include the following: rules, regulations, and safety; trichology; shampoo/scalp analysis; styling; haircutting; hair color, bleaching/lightening, tinting; permanent waving; chemical straightening and relaxing; esthetics; and nails. The exam consists of state specific questions as well and it is highly encouraged you prepare with your school for those questions.
